Bags on Wheels?

In the ’90s Ellen Hart was a briefcase designer. She discovered there weren’t many options for “career bags,” designed specifically for women.

“I looked online to find briefcases for women, and discovered no one was meeting the need,” Hart tells PINK. “I found boutiques, but there was no centralized location.”

In 2006, she founded Career Bags as a one-stop location for trendy bags for women. Today, her site boasts over 3,000 fashion-forward products – including laptop bags and iPad cases.

Wondering about the hottest trends in briefcases?

Hart says, believe it or not, laptop bags on wheels are hot right now. “Women are tired of carrying things, so they are finally at the point where they want to look cute but without the pain.”

And, eco-friendly line Urban Junket by Tracy Dyer, is the “it” brand of the moment.

Orange and green are popular colors this summer, but women still like basic black the most says Hart. “We have so many beautiful colors but black is still number one.”

Inspired by the simple, clean designs of Michael Kors, Hart is a fan of classic bags – particularly by Clark & Mayfield.

“It’s well-priced nice leather,” she says.

Whatever your taste – thanks to women – style has a place in the workplace. And, career bags may well be the new handbag.
