Cut Your Energy Use
Energy costs money, and unless you are running a tight ship already, it is likely that your business can make a few simple changes that will reduce your costs. Start with the basics by training your staff to turn off lights in unused rooms, and shutting down their computers each night. Perform maintenance on your heating and air conditioning units to make sure they are working in perfect order. Finally, be sure to find and repair any areas where drafts come through so that people don’t feel the need to turn up the heat.

Look Into Solar Power
Whether you own or rent your premises, you should think about having solar power installed. It only takes a little investment and will cut your energy costs permanently, and pay for itself over five years. It’s a great way of investing your profits. Although it can be trickier if you rent your office space, it is still achievable. You could ask around other companies that rent in the same block and petition the owners to get solar power installed. If you all club together to meet the costs you can all benefit in the long-term.

Go Paperless
Paper is one of the business world’s biggest waste problems. But, the reality is that you just don’t need to use as much these days. You can send faxes entirely online, for example. Or, instead of sending your customers paper greetings cards in the festive period, you could send business Christmas ecards instead. They can be just as useful for marketing purposes. Little things like this can save you a lot of paper over the course of the year.

Organize a Carpool
Carpools are great for cutting down the amount coming to and from your workplace. It will help your employees save money on fuel, too, so they are likely to embrace it wholeheartedly. It also gives you a natural form of team building – you can suggest that members of different teams come in together, for example.

Perform Green Audits
If you can try and perform a few audit each year, specifically for green issues, it will help you stay on top of things for longer. You will begin to notice that certain things are used more during different seasons, and will be able to work out how to reduce them. It will also help you focus on what is saving you money, and what is becoming a drain. By staying on top of things, you will be able to keep your business greener, cheaper to run and noticed by your community as an environmentally conscious business.
